The worst part about the public beach is the the bathrooms reek horribly. It does not matter if it's beginning of season or end of season. It smells like the sewer. If the wind blows towards the beach you'll be smelling it.
The RV portion is pretty open. Due to the no-wake zone in front of the RV portion, you can swim there safely.
Good beach. Has two playgrounds right near the public beach, but if you are there mid-day there is not enough tree cover to use them due to a storm a few years ago.

Dogs without leashes at camp ground area. By the fishing pods dog owners drive with their dogs outside the car letting them run no supervision. This is happening because park rangers aren't doing their jobs. Makes me not want to come here. Making a nice place terrible. State law says dogs must be on leashes.
Great place to bike
A delightful find! Campground is just a short drive East of Pierre and is located on a lake. Quiet and serene. Has awesome walking/running trails and large open areas. We had a back-in space #18 next to the lake that had 30amp electrical. There is no water hook-up due to freezing temps in the Winter, however potable water is available if you need to fill your tanks. No sewer hook-up but there is a dump station. TV reception is good and Internet is open and free, but not real strong. Biggest downside was the evening gnats and mosquitos. Be sure and bring your bug repellent!
